The History of Zion Lutheran Church of Amor History has been good to Zion which was founded and built in 1883 as the "Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Gotaland Congregation in Otter Tail County." Later, the name Gotaland was changed to Amor. The congregation is now registered as Zion Lutheran Church of Amor. In 1892 the church was renovated, the steeple built, and a bell was put in place. At the annual meeting in 1926, the church was named, "The Evangelical Lutheran Zion Church of Amor." Over the years there was pressure to change the language used in the services from Swedish to English. The change was slow but by the late 1930's all services, activities, and meetings were conducted in English. Zion continued to share a pastor with other churches but in 1989 Zion became a two-point parish with Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. In 1988 there was a change from being a part of the Lutheran Church of American (LCA) and the adoption of the constitution of the ELCA. Zion then decided to go it alone and in May 1991 called Pastor Jim Gronbeck as Zion's fulltime pastor. God has continued to bless Zion as we have gained membership along with being able to improve our church building. In 1995 we built a new sanctuary and narthex addition to our facilities. In the winter of 2001 we completed a major kitchen and office remodeling project. May we continue to be inspired and encouraged as we look to the future.
