Library News
February is I Love to Read month as well as Black History month. The Library Team will observe both with a discussion of a book which reveals the life of the main characters who are from the south.
Refreshments will be served The Help is about a young white woman in the 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi, who becomes interested in the plight of the African American maids working in white households. She tells their stories about mistreatment, abuse, and heartbreaks in the white families’ homes. The dangers of undertaking writing a book about African –Americans and speaking out in the South hover over the book’s characters constantly. Reviewers claim that The Help is possibly the most important piece of fiction since To Kill a Mockingbird. Others highly recommend it for book club discussions. If there is enough interest on the day of the book discussion, we will set another time to watch the DVD and enjoy popcorn. The people we meet in The Help are fictional. However, we meet a real-live hero in Tony Dungy, the coach. His motto for a successful life is “the faith is more important than your job, and your family is more important than your job”…. Read about Tony Dungy in his autobiography Quiet Strength-the principles, practices, and priorities of a winning life. Dungy has also written a children’s book You Can Do It. The main character becomes a role model for a younger brother. This role model is a model for all who read this selection. The readers are encouraged to trust in God and dream big. Use your library to gain knowledge and have fun.
"The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the smarter you grow. The smarter you grow, the stronger your voice, When speaking your mind or making your choice."
